Minister of Foreign Affairs Lin Chia-lung delivered a speech at the 12th edition of the Warsaw Security Forum Sept. 29 in the Polish capital and reiterated Taiwan’s role as a trusted and reliable partner to Europe and the rest of the world.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Lin took part in the event at the invitation of the Casimir Pulaski Foundation. He is Taiwan’s first foreign minister to deliver a speech at the forum.

Lin said global democratic supply chains have been redefined by the COVID-19 pandemic, regional crises such as the Russian invasion of Ukraine, the convergence of authoritarian regimes and the rise of nationalism and deglobalization. It is imperative for like-minded countries to unite in solidarity and work to restructure supply chains, he said.

Taiwan is the backbone of the global tech ecosystem and a pivotal force driving technological advancement in the age of artificial intelligence, the minister said, adding that Taiwan and Europe can forge a powerful synergy to contribute to the latter’s strategic reindustrialization, Digital Europe Programme and AI Continent Action Plan.

In today’s interconnected global economy, trust has emerged as one of the most valuable assets, Lin said, urging Taiwan’s partners to jointly establish non-red supply chains to ensure industrial survival and the continuation of democracy. The government will leverage the Five Trusted Industry Sectors initiative to expand cooperation with its European partners and advance the government’s aspiration to build Taiwan into a thriving global economic powerhouse, he added.

The minister said Taiwan boasts a rich blend of traditional and modern culture and hopes to move beyond tech cooperation into cultural exchanges through the Taiwan Culture Year in Europe program, with the goal of forming a golden triangle of culture, technology and democracy that brings people, businesses and governments increasingly closer.
